COVID-19: How to protect yourself and others against Coronavirus

Drake Editorial Team

Protect yourself and your loved ones. Help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases like COVID-19.

What is the Coronavirus?

Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that cause diseases in mammals and birds. In humans, coronaviruses cause respiratory tract infections that are typically mild, such as some cases of the common cold, though rarer forms can be lethal, such as SARS, MERS, and COVID-19. Symptoms vary in other species: in chickens, they cause an upper respiratory tract disease, while in cows and pigs they cause diarrhea. There are yet to be vaccines or antiviral drugs to prevent or treat human coronavirus infections.

To protect yourself, follow the below preventive measures:

Wash your hands

Wash your hands with soap and warm water

Cover a cough or sneeze

Cover your cough or sneeze with your sleeve, or tissue. Dispose of tissue and wipe your hands afterward.

Don’t touch

Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth, especially with unwashed hands.

Keep your distance

Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Stay Home

If you experience respiratory symptoms like a cough or fever, stay home.

Get Help

If you experience symptoms of COVID-19 (cough, fever, shortness of breath), call your health care provider or local health department before seeking care.

Please call the National Coronavirus Hotline (0800 029 999) or WhatsApp "Hi" to 060 012 3456.
