BSc ENGINEER - SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER - DO-178 and DO-252

Salary: R 120K TCTC p/m for Snr and R50K p/m TCTC for junior.

THE CLIENT, situated in the Cape Town suburb of Westlake, South Africa, designs, develops and manufactures cutting edge, state of the art, satellite communications solutions for aircraft safety services and cockpit connectivity, as well as the UAV market. Our customers are the major commercial and military aircraft OEMs, where our high-performance satellite communications equipment underpins the optimization of airline operations towards a green economy.

The opportunity

In support of the above and in anticipation of evolving customer needs, we are embarking on the technology development of a satellite communications modem, based on software defined radio principles, able to host the waveforms of leading satellite communications service providers. The goal is to develop a flexible platform to give THE CLIENT the agility to meet the current and future needs of the challenging aviation satellite communications market.

Senior Project Manager

Key tasks

• Plan, execute and control project tasks allocated to various disciplines to ensure delivery within the allocated timeline and processes to ensure quality and cost effectiveness
• Develop the overall budget including staffing requirements
• ensure that each programme meets the stated objectives
• Agree priorities with Department Manager and Engineering Director
• Monitor, control and manage tasks to ensure adherence to the LCM process
• Identify and communicate project critical paths and major risks
• address project challenges and resolve project conflicts
• Gather and analyse information to identify opportunities for improvements
• manage communication channels
• Reports the progress of the projects as required
• Cooperate and reach consensus with project teams across sites within AEC
• Coordinate with sub-contractors if and when required during development
• Work with customers and/or support program management to ensure agreed deliverables and milestones are met

Mandatory requirements

• Minimum 5 - 10 years Project Management experience
• Experience owning program strategy with end to end delivery and communicating results to senior management.
• Minimum relevant engineering qualification with a project management diploma or equivalent
• Strong experience in analytical, strategic and planning functions
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Extraordinary organization skills, attention to detail and excellent follow through Financial, contractual, commercial skills, negotiating ability

Advantageous requirements

• Eng or project management certification or training
• Experience in an electronic/high-tech environment is highly desirable
• Experience in an aerospace environment and knowledge of SW and HW development processes such as DO-178 and DO-252
• Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements
